These terms govern your use of sequenceandsignal.com. By using the site you agree to them. If you do not, please stop using the site.
Last updated 2 July 2026 · Effective 2 July 2026
1. Agreement
These Terms of Use ("Terms") form an agreement between you and Sequence & Signal ("we," "us," "our") governing your access to and use of sequenceandsignal.com and its content (the "Site"). By accessing the Site you accept these Terms. Our privacy policy and disclaimer are incorporated into these Terms by reference; the disclaimer in particular is central to the bargain here, and you should read it.
We may revise these Terms at any time by posting a revised version with a new date. Continued use of the Site after a revision constitutes acceptance of it.
2. Informational purpose — not professional advice
All content on the Site is provided for general informational and educational purposes only and is not a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Nothing on the Site constitutes medical, clinical, pharmaceutical, legal, or regulatory advice, and no clinician–patient or other professional relationship is created by your use of the Site or by any correspondence with us.
You should always seek the advice of a physician, pharmacist, or other qualified healthcare provider regarding any medical condition or treatment, and never disregard or delay seeking such advice because of anything you have read on the Site. Any reliance you place on Site content is strictly at your own risk. We publish no dosages, routes of administration, protocols, preparation instructions, or sourcing information, and we sell, supply, broker, and recommend nothing.
3. Acceptable use
You may read, search, quote, link to, and share the Site for personal, educational, journalistic, and research purposes. You may not:
- use the Site or its content to promote, advertise, market, or facilitate the sale, supply, or distribution of any substance, product, or service;
- represent, whether by framing, excerpting, editing, or juxtaposition, that we endorse any product, seller, practitioner, clinic, or claim, or that our content constitutes medical advice;
- alter, truncate, or recontextualise our content in a way that misrepresents its meaning, its sourcing, or the limits we placed on it;
- use the Site for any unlawful purpose, or in violation of any applicable law or regulation;
- attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the Site, its servers, or connected systems, or interfere with or disrupt their operation;
- use automated means to access the Site at a rate that imposes an unreasonable load, or to circumvent any access restriction;
- scrape or otherwise collect Site content in bulk for training machine-learning systems or for republication, without our prior written permission;
- harvest email addresses or other contact information from the Site;
- submit anything through our forms that is unlawful, abusive, deceptive, or that contains malicious code.
We may restrict or terminate access to the Site, without notice, for conduct we reasonably believe violates these Terms.
4. Intellectual property
Except where otherwise stated, all content on the Site — text, editorial photography selection and captioning, illustrations, layout, design, source compilations, and the Sequence & Signal name, wordmark, and logo — is owned by Sequence & Signal or its licensors and is protected by copyright, trademark, and other applicable laws.
You may quote reasonable extracts with clear attribution and a link to the original page; link to any page; and print or save copies for personal, non-commercial reference or classroom use.
You may not, without prior written permission, republish a whole article or a substantial part of one; use our content in any commercial or promotional context; use our name, wordmark, or logo in a way suggesting affiliation, sponsorship, or endorsement; or create derivative works from our content. Permission requests go to info@sequenceandsignal.com; we grant non-commercial educational requests routinely and free of charge.
Third-party material appearing on the Site — including photographs licensed from stock providers and quoted material — remains the property of its owners and is used under licence or under applicable fair-use principles. Nothing in these Terms transfers any right in that material to you.
If you believe content on the Site infringes your copyright, send a notice with the details required by 17 U.S.C. § 512(c)(3) to info@sequenceandsignal.com.
5. Submissions
Material you send us — corrections reports, source tips, general correspondence — is not confidential unless we expressly agree in advance that it is. By sending it you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to use the information it contains in our reporting. We will not publish your name or contact details without your consent. Do not send confidential, privileged, or personal health information.
6. External links
The Site may link to third-party websites. We do not control and are not responsible for their content, accuracy, availability, or practices, and a link is not an endorsement. Your use of any linked site is governed by that site's own terms and privacy policy.
7. No warranty
THE SITE AND ALL CONTENT ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, INCLUDING IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.
We do not warrant that the Site will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free, that defects will be corrected, or that content is accurate, complete, current, or free of error. Scientific and regulatory information changes; content reflects our understanding as of its publication date. Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
8. Limitation of liability
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, SEQUENCE & SIGNAL AND ITS OWNERS, STAFF, CONTRIBUTORS, AND ADVISORS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, GOODWILL, OR PERSONAL INJURY, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO YOUR USE OF, OR INABILITY TO USE, THE SITE OR ITS CONTENT — WHETHER BASED IN CONTRACT, TORT, NEGLIGENCE, STRICT LIABILITY, OR ANY OTHER THEORY, AND WHETHER OR NOT WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.
OUR TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS RELATING TO THE SITE SHALL NOT EXCEED ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS (US$100) OR THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE TWELVE MONTHS PRECEDING THE CLAIM, WHICHEVER IS GREATER.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, including liability for fraud or for death or personal injury caused by negligence where applicable law so provides. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
9. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Sequence & Signal and its owners, staff, contributors, and advisors from any claim, demand, loss, or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of your breach of these Terms, your misuse of the Site, or your violation of any law or third-party right.
10. Governing law and venue
These Terms and any dispute arising out of or relating to them or to the Site are governed by the laws of the State of Wisconsin, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, and by applicable United States federal law.
You and we agree that the exclusive venue for any action arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Site shall be the state or federal courts located in Dane County, Wisconsin, and each party consents to the personal jurisdiction of those courts. If you access the Site from outside the United States, you do so on your own initiative and are responsible for compliance with local law. Any claim must be brought within one year after it arises, to the extent permitted by law.
11. General
If any provision of these Terms is held unenforceable, that provision will be enforced to the maximum extent permissible and the remaining provisions will remain in full force. Our failure to enforce any provision is not a waiver of it. These Terms, together with the privacy policy and disclaimer, constitute the entire agreement between you and us regarding the Site. You may not assign these Terms; we may assign them in connection with a transfer of the publication.
